Chiropractor Joseph Ethen D.C.
Dr. Ethen is a native of St. Cloud, Minnesota. He was recruited to the Youngstown, Ohio area by the Youngstown State University Basketball team in 1995. While studying at YSU, he was a captain of the Men’s Basketball team, and a student Athletic Trainer for the 1995-1997 Football teams. He graduated from YSU in 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and soon after became a Certified Athletic Trainer (licensed in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania).
Dr. Ethen worked for Sharon Regional Health System in Sharon, PA for 5 years as an Exercise Physiologist and Athletic Trainer. During his time at Sharon Regional, he worked with numerous populations including Cardiac Rehab, Children’s Fitness, Diabetic Exercise, Sport Specific Training, Athletic Injuries, and general exercise prescription/Personal Training. While at Sharon Regional, Dr. Ethen continued his studies at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, PA. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology in 2001.
After severely injuring his back, Dr. Ethen worked his way through many hours of grueling physical therapy, sometimes being unable to move. Cortisone shots soon followed, which were of little help, and he was left with only surgical options to repair damage in his back. Dr. Ethen’s quest for alternative treatment brought him to a Chiropractor in Pennsylvania where he slowly regained his strength and mobility, soon becoming pain free all together. This ultimately shaped Dr. Ethen’s train of thought and his interest in Chiropractic grew. Dr. Ethen decided to further his education at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. Along with his studies at Palmer, he was the Athletic Trainer for the Men’s and Women’s Rugby Teams and the Men’s Hockey Team. He graduated in 2005 with his Doctorate in Chiropractic and returned to the Youngstown area with his family.
His office, Ethen Chiropractic and Wellness, Inc., opened in February 2006 in Canfield, Ohio. Since that time he has worked with the Youngstown State Athletic Department and the Canfield High School Hockey Team. Although he enjoys working with athletics, his true devotion is to help families regain and maintain healthy lifestyles. He believes that true health begins at birth. He adjusted all 3 of his children minutes after birth and will make hospital calls to do this for his patients. Dr. Ethen has used adjustments and acupuncture to help children overcome asthma, allergies, and ADHD as well as early onset musculoskeletal afflictions. With patients ranging in age from newborns to senior citizens, he is well versed in many injuries and sicknesses as well as nutrition and exercise/rehab. He has been trained in many adjusting techniques, manual therapies, spinal traction, laser light therapy, Auricular stimulation/Acustim, and many more.
In July of 2011, Dr. Ethen was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of relocating his family to Chicago and became the Clinic Director of Lakefront Chiropractic in Glencoe. He continues to provide chiropractic care to patients of all ages, specializing in family chiropractic care, exercise physiology, nutritional counseling, hormone testing and acupuncture. Dr. Ethen is also available for large or small speaking engagements to discuss various topics such as, stress reduction in the work place, back pack safety, nutrition, etc.
